Minister for Justice Alan Shatter has asked the public to "seize the hour" when the clocks go back on Sunday.
Shatter, who is also the Minister for Time, said: "It is timely that we make the most of this annual return to where we were, and not let this extra hour pass us by unacknowledged."
He urged the public to make the most of Sunday, and also pointed out that it's the only 25 hour day of the year.
"Carpe Horam," he concluded in a statement, which is Latin for "seize the hour".
Winter Time will commence here in Ireland on Sunday October 27th, which means all clocks, watches and other time-sensitive devices should be turned back one hour at 1.00 am Greenwich Mean Time (GMT).
Winter Time will end at 1:00 am on Sunday 30 March, 2014, at which time all clocks should be put forward an hour once more.
