A 20 year old Belfast woman has been arrested in Lima, Peru, over her alleged involvement in a drug trafficking operation.

The Department of Foreign Affairs has confirmed it is providing  Michaela McCollum Connolly's family with consular assistance.

She was arrested with another woman, who is a British citizen.

Ms. Connolly had been missing since last week, and her family had launched an appeal here to try and locate her.

Ms. Connolly had been working in a niteclub in Ibiza, but reports say this morning that she was arrested in Tuesday eveningas she tried to board a plane to Madrid.

The campaign to find Ms. Connolly received national exposure, both on social media and the national airwaves.
