"Modern Family" has made Emmy history, winning the title of best comedy series for a record-breaking fifth year in a row at television's equivalent of the Oscars.
"Breaking Bad" won best drama series - capping a triumphant night in which it also won the best actor and best supporting actor and actress prizes.
"Sherlock" has won a hat-trick of Emmy Awards.
It's stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman both picked up acting prizes in the miniseries category.
Neither were able to collect their awards in person - but executive producer Steven Moffat was at the NBC Television Academy show to collect the best writing prize.
Billy Crystal paid a special tribute to the late Robin Williams.
Best TV Movie went to "The Normal Heart".
Speaking on the red carpet - one of the drama's stars Julia Roberts - says it was an honour just to be nominated.
