The makers of an energy drink ‘Monster’ are being sued by an American family whose 14-year-old daughter died after drinking 2 cans of the beverage in 2 days.
Page 3 of The Irish Independent tells us that the drink which contains the caffeine equivalent of seven cans of Coca-Cola has been slapped with a warning by the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) after the 14-year-old died of a heart attack last December having drunk 2 24-ounce cans in 2 days.
The 2 drinks together contained 480 milligrams of caffeine.
A post-mortem concluded she died of cardiac arrhythmia due to caffeine toxicity.
Her mother has described the brightly-coloured cans as “death traps” for children.
Parents here have been warned not to allow their children to consume energy drinks after the 5 deaths in the US.
