More women are leading the Irish business sector, says survey

Over 170,000 of Ireland's 510,000 company directors are female and most of them work in the financial services sector.

That is according to figures in the Eulogy Irish Directors Report which was released today.

It also found that many young Irish businesswomen are travelling to the UK to further their careers and that a significant number (14 %) are aged between 18 and 35-years-old.

It says that the top 5 Industries for female directors in Ireland are:

  • Business services with 41% of directors women
  • Social work which has 6.4%
  • Construction is at 5.5%
  • Real Estate sees 5.1% of women at the top of the industry
  • Retail stands at 3.9%

The report also shows a 20% increase in the overall number of directors in Ireland since 2010 which now stands at 510,000. Of these 10% are aged between 18 to 35-years-old.

While the number of Irish directors in the UK has increased by 14% since 2011 and now stands at 47,482. That is more than twice that of any other non-British nationality.
