The Taoiseach says the country’s next economic goal is to create enough jobs to allow emigrants to come back to Ireland.

In his televised address to mark the end of the bailout, Enda Kenny says the government wants to increase employment to over two million by 2020.

He was speaking ahead of the publication later this week of a new economic strategy for the country.

A man and a woman have been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a man in Dublin yesterday.

The man, named locally as 41 year old Edward O'Connor, was gunned down on the Ballycoolin Road in Finglas at around 5 o'clock yesterday evening.

He was taken to James Connolly Memorial Hospital in Blanchardstown where he was pronounced dead.

A man remains in Garda custody in connection with the seizure of more than a million euro worth of cash in Limerick over the weekend.

The discovery was made as part of an ongoing investigation into organised crime - after a man was found digging up cash in a field in Portcrusha in Castleconnell on Saturday.

A 53 year old man was arrested and is being held at Henry Street Garda Station.

IBEC is predicting a new phase of strong economic growth following Ireland's exit from the bailout programme.

In its new economic outlook, the group that represents Irish business, is forecasting economic growth of nearly 3 per cent next year.

The body says it expects 2014 will also be another good year for job creation.
