A murder investigation has been launched following the fatal stabbing of a man in Dublin last night.

The man in his 30's was stabbed just before 7 o'clock yesterday evening at a house in Kiltalown Way in Tallaght. He was taken to Tallaght hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

A man was arrested at the scene and is being held at Tallaght Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

The German chancellor Angela Merkel has clinched a third term in a convincing election victory.
