Ireland's human rights watchdog is warning that plans to Garda body-cams breach citizens’ privacy and trust.
The Justice Minister Charlie Flanagan has said the body-worn cameras will provide a clear record of public order incidents involving Gardaí.
However, the Irish Council for Civil Liberties is calling on the Government to scrap the idea – warning that it breaches a rage of citizen rights and will hinder community policing.
The watchdog said it has “debunked” seven justifications used by the State to introduce the “invasive and unnecessary” cameras.

A man in his 30s has been arrested on suspicion of arson following an attack on a Monaghan garda station this week.
Emyvale Garda Station in County Monaghan was seriously damaged in the fire that took hold in the early hours of Monday morning.
Yesterday, investigating gardaí carried out two searches in Emyvale and third in the Letterkenny area of Donegal.
Yesterday, a man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of arson in Donegal. He is being held at Letterkenny Garda Station where he will be interviewed by Monaghan gardaí.

A secondary school teacher who had a sexual relationship with one of her students will be sentenced today.
The court heard that the pair had sex for the first time on the boy's 16th birthday because she wrongly believed that was the legal age of consent.
The woman, who was 23-years-old at the time, accepts full responsibility and has been disqualified from teaching.
The boy told the court that he believed they were in a relationship and developed psychological problems and life-threatening anxiety after the situation came to light.

Twitter is banning political advertising on its platform.
In a series of tweets, the CEO Jack Dorsey said "political message reach should be earned, not bought."
He said political message should earn reach through people power, adding, “we believe that decision should not be compromised by money.”
Facebook has been urged to do the same, after it revealed it didn't fact-check ads by politicians or their campaigns.
