Brexit and Budget 2020
The Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has told Fine Gael's Presidential Dinner that Ireland is on the "right track" as we head towards the publication of Budget 2020.
Speaking in Dublin last night, he said that Ireland has a strong economy, is approaching full employment and incomes are rising.
On Brexit, he said the Government wants a deal but not at any cost.
Mr Varadkar said the Government has a twin-track approach to Brexit and the Budget, that being to get a deal and if that's not possible, to use a prudent Budget to get the country through.
Boris Johnson
The British Prime Minister has urged Brussels to "grasp the opportunity" his new Brexit proposal provides.
Boris Johnson made the comments in two Sunday newspapers today and reiterated his vow to leave the EU on October 31.
However, the bloc's chief Brexit negotiator Michael Barnier said he could not advance talks on the wishes of the remaining 27 EU leaders.
Hong Kong
Pro-democracy politicians in Hong Kong have failed to overturn a ban on face masks being worn at protests.
Their legal challenge was denied at the High Court, however, they say they will bring a judicial review over the issue.
The emergency power was imposed by leader Carrie Lam following months of demonstrations.
Iraq
Armed men have stormed the offices of a news broadcaster in Iraq, injuring staff and destroying equipment.
The masked assailants targeted the Saudi-owned Al-Arabiya channel in the country's capital Baghdad.
More than 80 people have now died in the last five days during anti-government protests.
Irish Guide Dogs events
Dog lovers are uniting across Limerick and Dublin today to raise funds for Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind.
5K walks will take place in both cities to help fund guide dogs for people who are visually impaired and for families of children with autism.
According to the organiser of the events, Linda Foley, the national charity costs more than €5m to fund annually and just 15% of this is provided by State funding.
