Cabinet ministers are set to approve an alternative plan for the Leaving Cert exams this morning.

It's understood the examinations will be cancelled and replaced with a system of predictive grades.

It's expected an official announcement will be made this afternoon.

The National Public Health Emergency Team will meet this morning to consider testing every resident in direct provision for COVID-19.

Latest figures show there are 164 cases of the virus in asylum seeker accommodation, up from 88 last Saturday.

Dr Holohan said officials will be considering how settings such as direct provision testing could be prioritised in settings where there's a 'continued challenge' posed by the virus.

A County Louth nursing home says 23 residents have died since the start of April - 'many of them' from COVID-19.

The deaths have taken place at Dealgan House in Dundalk.

A new study has shown over half of essential workers have children and need childcare.

The ESRI looked at Labour Force Survey data to calculate how many healthcare workers, members of the emergency services and retail staff need childminders.

Of those who have kids, 9% are lone parents, while two thirds have a child who is younger than 14.
