Counting in Dublin’s European election will not resume until 11am this morning after a dispute between the last two candidates likely to be elected.
Fianna Fáil's Barry Andrews and Independents4Change TD Clare Daly are battling it out for the third seat – after the Green’s Ciarán Cuffe and Fine Gael's Frances Fitzgerald were elected yesterday.
Sinn Féin’s Lynn Boylan is in fifth place and, once she is eliminated, both will be elected.
However, Deputy Daly is insisting that a further count should be held to distribute those votes – and clarify the third and fourth places.
Whoever comes in fourth will only be able to take their seat if and when the UK leaves the EU.
