The Government's set to approve an in-depth study on familicide and the supports available for families affected.
It comes after requests from the family of Clodagh Hawe - who was murdered along with her three sons by her husband Alan in 2016.
The study will also look an international best practice when it comes to investigating domestic homicides, and how those might be applied in Ireland.

A major vulnerability in messaging app Whatsapp allowed attackers install spyware onto phones.
The app - which is owned by Facebook - said the attack targeted a "select number" of users.
WhatsApp has urged all of its 1.5 billion users to update their apps as an added precaution.

A €3.5 billion transport plan for Cork is being officially revealed this morning.
Among the plans are a 17 kilometre long 'Luas style' light rail system, eight new railway stations and 100km of bus lanes.
The National Transport Authority says Cork will be the fastest-growing city-region in Ireland, with a projected 50%-60% increase in its population by 2040.

Three people have died and three others are missing following a mid-air crash between two sightseeing planes over Alaska.
The passengers were all tourists from a cruise ship, taking part in sightseeing flights near the town of Ketchikan.
The ship's operator, Princess Cruises, says it is "deeply saddened" and is providing help to the families affected.

The Michelin star restaurant was crowned the country's best restaurant at the Irish Restaurant Awards 2019 in Dublin last night.
Best Chef went to Graham Neville of Dax Restaurant, Dublin while the title of best pub went to another Dublin based establishment, Doheny and Nesbitt.
