Police in the UK have made an arrest in connection with the murder of pensioner Rose Hanrahan in Limerick two years ago.
The 78-year-old was found dead at her home in Thomondgate in December 2017.
It is understood she had been violently assaulted.
Gardaí have now confirmed that an individual has been arrested in the UK on foot of a European Arrest Warrant.

The Taoiseach has said Ireland is due for a ‘revolution in offshore wind energy.’
Leo Varadkar has insisted the Government's Climate Action Plan will take a major step forward next year.
He said Ireland planning issues have seen Ireland fall behind in terms of harnessing its wind energy potential.
He said the country must be getting 70% of its energy from renewables by 2030.

The Justice Minister is today announcing a new 'expert group' to provide better long-term solutions to Direct Provision.
Minister Charlie Flanagan said the group will allow for better medium and long term planning for the future.
Direct Provision campaigner Ellie Kisyombe has given a cautious welcome to the plan.
She said the recommendations made by the Government’s last group have yet to be implemented and voiced hope that this one can offer a clear timetable for reform.

A mother who lost her husband and two children in an accident at a Spanish resort on Christmas Eve has insisted all three knew how to swim.
Olubunmi Diya has said “something was wrong with the pool” in which they drowned, making it difficult for them to swim.
52-year-old Gabriel Diya, and his 16-year-old son Praise-Emmanuel and nine-year-old daughter Comfort died at Club La Costa World in Fuengirola on December 24th.
The hotel operator has said “Diligent and exhaustive police investigations” have found that the “pool was working normally and there was no malfunction of any kind.”

Gardaí are hoping they will be able to return suspected stolen bikes found in County Dublin to their rightful owners.
Investigators discovered €250,000 worth of bicycles when they searched a shipping container in Newcastle on St Stephen's Day.
116 bikes of all makes and models have been seized.
No arrests have been made.
