Morning top 5: Irish economic growth to 'moderate'; Mother and Baby Homes report; and 9,000 people treated for problem drug use

Ireland's economic growth forecast has been cut by IBEC.

The business group has said while household income per-person has now reached record levels, this pace of growth will not last "indefinitely" as the global economy shows signs of slowing.

For 2019, it forecasts that growth will moderate to 4%, and to 2.7% in 2020.

The fifth interim report on Mother and Baby Homes is expected to focus on burial arrangements for the women and children who died in the institutions.

The report from the Mother and Baby Homes Commission was brought to cabinet by Children's Minister Katherine Zappone on Tuesday and is to be published later.

The commission has been investigating 14 mother and baby homes as well as four 'county homes' which were in operation between the years 1922 and 1998.

Almost 9,000 people were treated for problem drug use in 2017.

Latest figures from the Health Research Board (HRB) show cannabis remains the most common drug among cases entering treatment for the first time.

Four out of every 10 new cases were treated for problem cannabis use, many at a young age according to the HRB.

US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will address current and former members of the Dáil and Seanad in Leinster House later.

It is the first time a speaker of a foreign parliament has been invited to address members of both Houses.

Members of the Northern Assembly have also been invited to the event, which is to mark the centenary of the establishment of the Dáil.

Gardaí in Donegal have arrested three Romanian men as part of an investigation into organised crime.

The arrests relate to suspected fraud.

The men detained by Gardaí are aged 24, 25 and 31 and are all Romanian nationals.
