British Prime Minister Theresa May will write to the European Council President Donald Tusk asking for a postponement to Brexit.

She could suggest a three month extension or even a longer delay, as she tries to get approval for a withdrawal deal in parliament.

The other 27 EU states are due to meet in Brussels tomorrow.

A father and his son who fled the civil war in Syria are the first two people to buried following the New Zealand terror attacks.

The funerals of 44-year-old Khalid Mustafa and 15-year-old Hamza were held this morning.

Khalid's wife said they came to Christchurch last year to be in the "safest country in the world".

Two men are still being questioned by police in Northern Ireland after three teenagers died outside a St Patrick's night disco in Co Tyrone.

Lauren Bullock (17), Morgan Barnard (17) and 16-year-old Connor Currie died after a crush outside the Greenvale Hotel in Cookstown.

The PSNI say up to 400 people were outside the hotel during the crush.

There is a warning the cyclone that has devastated a huge area of southern Africa is affecting hundreds of thousands - if not millions - of people.

At least 350 people have been killed, and 400,000 left homeless from Cyclone Idai.

The United Nations has allocated some €17.5m for humanitarian aid to Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Malawi.

It has emerged one in four Irish people have used their credit cards to pay for heat and light.
