British Prime Minister Theresa May will write to the European Council President Donald Tusk asking for a postponement to Brexit.
She could suggest a three month extension or even a longer delay, as she tries to get approval for a withdrawal deal in parliament.
The other 27 EU states are due to meet in Brussels tomorrow.

Two men are still being questioned by police in Northern Ireland after three teenagers died outside a St Patrick's night disco in Co Tyrone.
Lauren Bullock (17), Morgan Barnard (17) and 16-year-old Connor Currie died after a crush outside the Greenvale Hotel in Cookstown.
The PSNI say up to 400 people were outside the hotel during the crush.
