The country's three teaching unions are meeting today - with talks set to focus on pay and conditions.

The INTO began its annual think-in yesterday while the ASTI and TUI conferences begin later.

The Teachers Union of Ireland says new teachers are leaving their jobs because they cannot afford to pay rent.

The union claims some of their members are earning less that €15,000 a year.

Belgian authorities have released the only man arrested and charged with any involvement in the Brussels attack.

The man they named as Faycal C - a freelance journalist - had been facing a charge of terrorist murder but was allowed to walk free after a judge decided there wasn't enough evidence to continue holding him.

35 people were killed and many more injured in the terror attacks at the airport and Metro station last Tuesday.

A suspected gunman has been taken into custody, after police say a firearm was pointed at them at the US Capitol building in Washington DC.

Officers shot and injured the man, who has been taken to hospital for treatment.

A lockdown was briefly imposed on the White House and surrounding areas.

The FBI has successfully hacked into the iPhone of a dead gunman involved in last year's shooting at San Bernardino in California.

The US Justice Department has now withdrawn an order that would have forced Apple to unlock the phone - saying it has had help from a "third party".

Officials are investigating the shooting dead of 14 people in December by Syed Farook and his wife Tashfeen Malik.
