A teenager has been arrested after a three-day armed standoff with gardaí in Donegal.

He had barricaded himself into a house in Letterkenny on Wednesday night with a gun and ammunition.

Gardai say the incident ended peacefully just after midnight last night - and no one was injured.

A decision to allow a retrial of the two people accused of murdering Irish man Jason Corbett is to be appealed by North Carolina's attorney general.

His wife Molly Martens and her father Tom were convicted of the Limerick man's murder in the US state in 2015.

They admitted to beating the Irishman to death at his home in North Carolina in August 2015 - however, they claimed they were acting in self-defence.

Earlier this month, they won an appeal seeking a retrial - but a formal stay on the decision has now been requested.

Italy has reported its first death from the coronavirus, amid a spike in the number of cases detected.

15 cases of the virus were confirmed yesterday in northern regions of the country.

The cluster of cases hs prompted officials to order schools, restaurants and businesses to close.

A woman in her 70s has been killed in a crash in County Cork.

She had been walking along the R580 Kanturk to Buttevant Road when she was hit by a car at around 7pm last night.

Any witnesses are being asked to contact gardaí.

The Nobel Peace Prize will be on display in Dublin across the weekend.

It will be shown at the International Coin Fair, which is taking place in the city at the RDS.

Five people from the island have been awarded the prize - most recently David Trimble and John Hume in 1998 for their work on the Good Friday Agreement.
