A report into the scale of outsourcing of smear tests by laboratories is expected to be published today.

It looked into whether the HSE and Cervical Check were aware US labs sub-contracted work on smear tests out to other sites.

The issue of outsourcing emerged in an initial report by Dr Gabriel Scally into the Cervical Check controversy.

This new report by Dr Scally will be considered by Cabinet this morning before being published later.

A section of O’Connell Street is closed this morning after a man was stabbed overnight.

The incident happened at around 1:20am.

The man has been taken to the Mater Hospital where he is being treated for his injuries.

Gardaí have closed off part of the road while they investigate the incident.

The State's finance watchdog has warned that the Government has no credible medium-term plan for the economy.

The latest assessment report from the Irish Fiscal Advisory Council has found that there is a risk of the economy overheating in the next few years.

The body is warning the Finance Minister against ongoing overspending based on a reliance on higher-than-expected corporate tax receipts.

It is urging the Government to put more money aside while the economy is doing well.

In the US, a pilot's been killed after a helicopter crashed onto the roof of a New York skyscraper.

The Federal Aviation Administration says it appears to have been an accident, and there's no indication it was a terror attack.

The incident happened at around 2pm local time yesterday in rain and fog on Seventh Avenue, close to Times Square.

Nearby buildings were evacuated.

Renters are paying up to 12% more for properties close to DART stations and Luas stops.

The "Light Rail Rental Map" from property website Daft.ie has found that tenants are paying rents of more than €3,000 per month.

That is compared to the average rent of €2,000 per month elsewhere in the city.

The report said it expects rental prices to jump along the proposed route for the new Metrolink once the plans are finalised.
