Almost 75% of Irish women are responsible for the family's food shop.
The statistic has been revealed as part of latest research from the National Consumer Agency.
The organisation quizzed a thousand people about their shopping habits this summer, and found the way we shop has changed since the the economic crash, with a 50% rise in the popularity of supposedly cheaper 'own-brand' products.
More than half the men surveyed claim they still have no responsibility for grocery shopping, something which NCA spokesperson Fergal O'Leary admits is surprising:
Mr. O'Leary says Irish shoppers have become smarter since the recession.
Almost 9 in 10 customers believe they're now shopping more wisely with nearly 70% going to less expensive stores.
More than half of those surveyed also claim they're more likely to buy own-brand products.
