A book, which has been described by some as 'highly sexual', is to be removed from the sex education curriculum.
'This Book is Gay' was included in a reading list for Junior Cycle sex education.
However it was challenged due to sections that provide details on sex acts, sexting and using apps which typically have age limits of 17 or 18.
Sarah Holmes, a mother of three from Co Wicklow, told Newstalk Breakfast she believes the material is not age appropriate.
"It's kind of across the board the almost go-to book for anybody who was LGBTQ+," she said.
"The main concern I have is that a lot of the activity in there is just really inappropriate for the age range that it was being targeted at.
"As a mother of kids that age I know you've got to get them ready for society and things are different now.
"At the same time, you don't encourage young children to use adult sex dating apps and meet up for hook-ups".
'Fact-based, common sense'
Ms Holmes also questioned advice for parents.
"Even if it's for parents, should we be encouraging parents to believe that... things have come so far that 12, 13 and 14-year-olds should be using Grindr to meet up random strangers for sex?" she said.
"The real reason I'm keeping going on this one is [because] none of the people in Childrens Books Ireland - in An Post who are sponsoring this reading guide, in the HSE, in the Department of Education - none of the people who defended the book had read it," she claimed.
Ms Holmes said the approach to LGBT should be taught "in the same way we teach any sexual orientation sex education."
"I think we need fact-based, common sense, age appropriate sex education - irrespective of your sexual orientation," she added.
