A man in his 20s has died following a crash in Co Westmeath.

The man was on a motorbike which collided with a van at Loughnavalley between Mullingar and Athlone, around 4.30 this afternoon.

He was taken to Mullingar Hospital but was later pronounced dead.

The van driver's injuries were not life threatening.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses and the road remains closed with diversions in place.
