Motorsport Ireland says driver Paul Mulcahy's death during the Carrick-on-Suir stages rally yesterday was a tragic accident.

Mulcahy, from Dungarvan, Co.Waterford, died following injuries he received during stage 4 of the event.

His co-driver, who was also injured, was taken to Waterford Regional Hospital with non life threatening injuries.

The remainder of the event was cancelled as a mark of respect, and the association says it wishes to extend its heartfelt sympathy to Paul’s family and friends.
