Gardaí in Dublin have launched a murder investigation after a man was shot dead while walking in Dublin yesterday evening.
It happened at around 8pm on a quiet stretch of the South Circular Road close to Griffith College.
31-year-old Declan O’Reilly was walking with his girlfriend and an 11-year-old boy.
The scene remains sealed off this morning for a technical examination.
Gardai at Kevin Street are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
It is understood the man aged in his 30s was shot a number of times in the neck and head.
He was taken to St. James’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
AÂ motive for the killing is still unknown.
Gardaí say a dark car was seen leaving the scene of the shooting.
Shortly afterwards a car was found on fire on O’Curry Road in the Tenters area of the south inner-city not far from where the shooting took place.
It was the 2nd shooting here in less than 24 hours.
A man aged in his 20s was shot at around 8.30am yesterday morning in Co. Laois.
He was killed at Kilnacourt Woods Housing Estate in Portarlington.
He was rushed to Tullamore General Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
