Residents in a North Belfast community have been left shocked after the death of a baby last night.
The body was found in a house in Brompton Park in Ardoyne, along with a second child who is now receiving hospital treatment in intensive care.
A 29-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder.
PSNI Detective Chief Inspector Chris Millar said: “Police were called to the house shortly after 8pm last night and discovered the injured baby and another injured child in the house.
"Despite the efforts of the emergency services the baby was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. The other young child was taken to hospital and remains in intensive care."
Police say they're not looking for anyone else in relation to the investigation at this stage.
Local Sinn Féin MP John Finucane attended the scene last night and says locals were in a "state of shock" as news spread about what happened.
He said: "[Police] aren't seeking anybody else in connection with this investigation.
"My thoughts and the thoughts of everybody in the community I have spoken with are just with all of those involved.
"I would also like to take the opportunity to urge people to be mindful and sensitive, particularly with regards posting or sharing anything that could add distress or compromise what is now a live murder investigation."
He added the local community is a "very strong" one that will now "rally round" in the wake of the last night's tragedy.
