A woman said her 'blood ran cold' when her three-year-old son developed an English accent after watching Peppa Pig.
The British animated show follows Peppa, a female piglet, and her family on their everyday adventures.
Comedian and Irish Examiner columnist Julie Jay told Moncrieff they've had to cut back on TV time.
"Little did I know allowing a bit of telly in the gaff would foster a speech impediment in my child - an English accent," she said.
"We love English accents; I have English in-laws and we're very fond of them.
"But I did have to dial back on the telly when my little fella, who's only three and a half, asked me to procure something from the cupboard.
"He used the 'c' word."
'I was pretty devastated'
Ms Jay said she had to correct her son.
"I was pretty devastated, my blood ran cold," she said.
"Honestly I had to just start singing Amhrán na bhFiann on repeat.
"I had to correct him and obviously, it goes without saying, it's a press.
"I had no idea what this child was talking about; that's when I knew we were going a little bit overboard on the Cbeebies."
Ms Jay said this example was not the first egregious word to come out of her son's mouth.
"A couple of weeks ago we were walking along the peer here in Dingle and he stops and asks me, 'Can we go the seaside?'" she said.
"He's going around with a west Kerry accent and speaking like he's on the Royal Variety Show.
"It made no sense whatsoever".
'Willing to take that risk'
Ms Jay said they have since switched over to TG4 and RTÉ Junior.
"With TG4 obviously you do run the risk that he's going to develop Galway Irish," she said.
"It's preferable to the other - that's the risk that we run but we're willing to take that risk.
"There's something about when things are as Gaeilge, they just feel softer and gentler.
"It's like when you get your penalty points notice and it's as Gaeilge, it just feels more pleasant," she added.
Ms Jay said there are several Irish versions of BBC children's shows.
Actor Cillian Murphy has previously revealed he moved his family back to Ireland because his children were developing “very posh English accents” in London.
It's not the first time Peppa Pig has come in for criticism, with claims that the title character “fat shames her dad”.
