A US schools superintendent who was dubbed the "Super Pooper" after he was convicted of defecating on a school athletics track has called for an investigation into how his police mug shot was leaked to the public.
The mug shot of former Kenilworth Schools Superintendent Thomas Tramaglini quickly went viral after it was leaked last year.
Tramaglini resigned his position before pleading guilty to relieving himself in public.
His lawyer has now asked the New Jersey Attorney General to investigate Holmdel Police for photographing him and allegedly leaking the mug shot, before he was charged with any crime.
"Mystery Pooper"
In a letter, attorney Matthew S. Adams said: "The photograph gave traction to inaccurate media accounts that he had been charged with deranged, anti-social behaviour."
He notes that it is illegal for police to take and release mug shots relating to ordinance violations or disorderly persons offences.
He said Tramaglini's life had effectively been ruined by the viral photo.
Police first charged Tramaglini after officials from Holmdel High began staking out the school's football field.
It came after staff and coaches complained that were "finding human faeces" at or near the sports facility "on a daily basis."
“There is no way for Dr. Tramaglini to cleanse the internet of what the Holmdel Police Department has so maliciously done to harm him, and the Holmdel Police Department must be held accountable," wrote Mr Adams.
He said his client had been diagnosed with a "medical condition that causes an emergent and sudden need to defecate.”
Tramaglini said he suffers from a documented medical condition known as “Runners Diarrhoea.” He said he runs around 65km per week - and the condition has deteriorated as he has gotten older.
