NASA's 'Curiosity' rover has collected its first sample of bedrock on Mars.
A drill carried at the end of its robotic arm managed to cut a six centimetre hole in the surface of the red planet.
It has been hailed as an 'immense achievement' by NASA, who hope the sample will reveal whether Mars was ever able to support life.
