The National Car Testing Service (NCTS) says underbody vehicle inspections will resume this week at eight nationwide test centres.
It comes after the use of lifts at all sites was suspended last week, following concerns over 'cracking'.
The eight centres to resume inspections are Cork (Little Island), Limerick, Northpoint in Swords, Fonthill, Galway, Letterkenny, Waterford and Killarney after new lifts were delivered.
They are in addition to six locations in Deansgrange, Ballinasloe, Athlone, Skibbereen, Ballina and Enniscorthy announced on Friday.
The NCTS says lifts at these locations are mainly used for those drivers who are due to undergo a driving test, an NCT taxi roadworthiness test, a trade (car dealerships) and those due for their NCT re-test.
It says a condition survey of all vehicle lifts is underway by the lift manufacturers.
This should be completed towards the end of this week.
When completed, the NCTS says it will immediately begin a programme of repairing the remaining lifts within the network "over the coming weeks."
The NCTS adds that it is "continuing to look into other measures to minimise customer inconvenience".
It is reminding all vehicle owners that the roadworthiness of their vehicle is their responsibility at all times.
Motorists are also being advised to keep a copy of their vehicle inspection report with them in order to present it to a member of An Garda Síochána, if required.
