Almost two-thirds of voters don't believe Senator John McGahon should be a Fine Gael General Election candidate.
That's according to the latest Sunday Independent/Ireland Thinks opinion poll out today.
The poll shows 61% of those surveyed do not think John McGahon should be a Fine Gael candidate, while 14% said he should and a quarter said they did not know.
Mr McGahon has not spoken since new details of his alleged assault case emerged last weekend.
Taoiseach Simon Harris has continued to support his party colleague, insisting a criminal court cleared him of any wrongdoing.
Leaders debate
Meanwhile, voters have said they believe Aontú leader Peadar Tóibín won last Monday night’s televised election debate on RTÉ.
Almost a quarter of voters said Mr Tóibín performed best on the ten-leader debate.
The Aontú leader was followed by Tánaiste Micheál Martin, Taoiseach Simon Harris and Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald.
One-in-ten choose People Before Profit leader Richard Boyd Barrett and 2pc said Ivana Bacik performed best.
Independent Ireland’s Michael Collins, Social Democrats Cian O’Callaghan and Green Party’s Roderic O’Gorman were all on 1pc.
Right to Change TD Joan Collins was on less than one percent.
The poll was carried out on November 21st and 22nd among a sample of 1,420 people with a margin of error of +/- 2.6pc.
