Neil Young has reportedly filed for divorce from his wife of 36 years, Pegi.
According to Rolling Stone magazine, he served papers in California at the end of July.
Mr Young, who is part of Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, wrote many songs inspired by his wife and often appeared on stage with her.
He met Pegi when she worked as a waitress at a diner and he claims she was the inspiration for some of his most famous love songs, including "Such a Woman," "Unknown Legend" and "Once an Angel."
The couple co-founded the Bridge School in 1986, which educates children with severe physical impairments.
They were inspired to start the school by their son Ben, who suffers from cerebral palsy.
A hearing is scheduled for December 12th.
