A nephew of Oscar winning Irish actress Maureen O'Hara has apologised to her former PA for making false allegations about her.
Charlie FitzSimons, who is based in Sweden, has also agreed to pay damages to Carolyn Murphy in order to settle a High Court defamation action over statements he made about her in a number of e-mails.
This year Ms O'Hara, the star of The Quiet Man, was given an honorary Oscar to recognise her lifetime achievement in film.
But behind the scenes there have been disputes about the screen legend's finances and her legacy.
Last month, her west Cork estate went on the market for €2.3m after plans for a museum and film school were shelved.
Between August 2012 and January 2013 Ms O'Hara's nephew, Mr FitzSimons, sent a number of e-mails questioning the integrity and honesty of Ms Murphy - his aunt's long-term personal assistant and friend.
She responded by suing him for defamation, but the case settled today for an undisclosed sum.
In a statement read out in court, Mr FitzSimons admitted the allegations were totally without foundation and he apologised for the distress and anxiety they caused.
