Three national events are being organised by a new group in order to commemorate the 1916 centenary celebrations.

'Reclaim the Vision of 1916 - a Citizens' Initiative' was established to mark the centenary in what organisers describe as a fitting manner.

It will see a national parade of celebration on Sunday April 24th 2016, along with a national seminar in the spring of next year.

The group is also aiming to put together a 'significant publication' about the Easter Rising.

The organisers revealed their 'Proclamation for a New Irish Republic', stating "we want Ireland to develop a culture that fosters and encourages independence of thinking and action. We recognise that there may be differences between us about how our vision can be implemented, but we insist that everyone who believes in the democratic right of the people to govern themselves should support our shared struggle for a better society for all."

Irish artist Robert Ballagh chaired today's event, and was joined by Jim Connolly-Heron, great grandson of James Connolly:
