Buskers have given a mixed reaction to a new code for street musicians being launched by Dublin City Council.
They say music should not be regulated but that some of the rules put forward could improve the atmosphere on Dublin streets.
Under the rules buskers will have set up at least 50 metres from other performers, must not monopolise a performance site and have at least 20 songs in their repertoire.
Acts like Glen Hansard, Damien Rice and Paddy Casey all tried their hand on Grafton Street in Dublin before hitting the ‘big time’.
But the new Street Performance Code plans to enforce some type of regulation on street performers.
It is hoped performers will implement the laws themselves rather than having the law enforcement involved.
Arts Office at Dublin City Council is Ray Yates.
He says some buskers have created problems for businesses and tourists.
