A new app has been developed by An Garda Síochána to help them solve robberies.
“What it does is, it puts the onus on you to keep track of all your valuables in a particular app,” Newstalk’s Tech Correspondent Jess Kelly explained to Newstalk Breakfast.
“So that if and when anything goes missing, you then have all of the key details within the app.
“So everyone take out your phone, download An Garda Síochána app, put it onto your phone and follow the steps.
“If there’s a serial number on the item or any identifying mark you log it all in that one place.”

The app is free to download and allows Gardaí to more efficiently record thefts when they take place:
“You put how much it is worth in there are well,” Jess continued.
“And then if and when - touchwood it never happens - it goes missing, you can then submit that full report of that particular item to the Gardaí, so they have absolutely everything.”
However, the app comes with an important caveat:
“This app only works and is only of value if you do it today - before anything goes missing you log all this stuff,” Jess emphasised.
“And then ideally you can forget about it and never have to take into it.
“But the day something does go missing, the Guards will have it [the information].”
