A new pro-choice group has been announced today, lobbying for legislation on the X and C cases, and the repeal of the 8th amendment in the Irish constitution.

The Abortion Rights Campaign, which brings together student unions, community and human rights groups and trade unions, is planning a number of events including one to mark the 21st anniversary of the X case at the end of February.

Meanwhile, thousands of pro-life campaigners have taken part in an event called the Vigil for Life at Merrion Square in Dublin this evening.

The rally planned since November is a protest against the Government's decision to legislate for abortion in certain cases.
