The Law Reform Comission is calling for changes to help lessen the trauma and financial difficulty on the families of missing persons.
It wants to enable families to apply for a court order declaring a relative 'presumed dead' before the usual 7 years missing - and also granting families access to a missing person's bank account.
The Law Reform Commission says the changes are urgently needed to help families deal with the emotional trauma of their loved one going missing.
