New York City’s Mayor Michael Bloomberg has praised the Taoiseach Enda Kenny for helping to bring about a “miraculous turnaround” in the Irish Economy.

Mayor Bloomberg told an audience of Irish-American politicians and dignitaries at Gracie Mansion in New York that Ireland had come up with a plan, and “everybody got behind it”.

Referring to the Taoiseach Enda Kenny he said “under this guy’s leadership Ireland has come together, addressed their fiscal issues and planned for the future”.

Taoiseach Enda Kenny presented Mayor Bloomberg with a replica of the immigrants tea-pot, crafted by a traveller from County Mayo.

He said it was symbolic of the “unquenchable thirst that Irish people had for tea, but also for prosperity”.

Today Enda Kenny will accompany Mayor Bloomberg to the viewing grandstand to watch the St Patrick’s Day Parade, the largest in the world outside of Ireland.

This year city authorities have been issued with a warning not to drink on the street or in the subway before the parade.

Last year police made over a dozen arrests after alcohol related public order incidents on St Patrick’s day.
