The Mayor of New York City says the Boston Marathon bombing suspects were targeting Times Square.

The FBI has been questioning the surviving brother, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, in hospital.

He's apparently told them that they had a pressure cooker bomb and five smaller devices they wanted to set off.

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg insists the city is always well protected:

Dzhokhar travelled to New York at least once last Autumn. There is a photo of him in Times Square. His older brother,Tamerlan, died in a shoot out with police last Friday.

Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly says the brothers came up with the Times Square target on the night they were eventually caught:

"That plan however fell apart when they realised that the vehicle that they hijacked was low on gas and ordered the driver to stop at a nearby gas station. The driver then used the opportunity to escape and call the police."

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev has tpday been transferred to a prison facility in Massachusetts.

The 19 year old was being treated under guard at a Boston hospital.

He's charged with the April 15 attacks that claimed three lives and wounded more than 280 people.

Meanwhile, the parents of the two men accused of carrying out the Boston bombings have blamed the United States for the loss of their children - saying America took their kids away.

They have confirmed they have been speaking to U.S. authorities, but they refuse to believe their children were responsible for last week's attack.

The suspects' father is planning to go to Boston as soon as he can.

But their mother is concerned she will not be allowed access to her one surviving son:

Yesterday the CIA confirmed that it wanted the elder brother Tamerlan Tsarnev put on a terrorist watch-list 18 months ago, after the Russian Government raised concerns about him.
