A newlywed has died in Zion National Park after her parachute failed to open during a Base jump.

Amber Bellows (28) and her husband hiked to the top of Mount Kinesava, in the southern part of the park, on Saturday.

She jumped first, and as she was falling 2,000-feet to the ground, her husband, Clayton Butler (29), saw that her parachute was failing to open. He immediately jumped off to follow her.

Officials later began a helicopter search and found Ms. Bellows' body.

The couple, from Salt Lake City, Utah, had married just two weeks earlier.

Ms. Bellows was experienced in Base jumping, which is banned in the park. It is the first time a jumper has died there.

Acting Superintendent Jim Milestone said in a statement "It is just really sad and our condolences go out to her family and friends. Base jumping is so dangerous. Even for those that are experienced, like Amber Bellows.

"That is one of the reasons it is not allowed in the park" he added.
