The Sun newspaper has been ordered to hand over documents to X-Factor judge Louis Walsh as part of his defamation action against the newspaper.
It relates to an article in June last year over false reports to gardai by Leonard Watters that he was sexually assaulted by the music manager in Dublin nightclub ‘Krystle’ in April last year.
Leonard Watters from Navan in Co. Meath was jailed for 6 months after he admitted making 2 false reports to gardai about Mr. Walsh.
Now in a defamation action against The Sun the X-Factor judge alleges a journalist at the tabloid offered the 24-year-old money to go to gardai and make the complaint.
This is denied by publishers Newsgroup which admits the allegations about Louis Walsh are false but says it acted fairly and reasonably.
As part of his action Mr. Walsh has been granted discovery of documents from The Sun and journalist Joanne McElgunn relating to her expenses and anything that would suggest money was offered.
Lawyers for The Sun have indicated they may come back to court to seek a stay on that discovery order.
