Four people have appeared before Bray District Court charged in connection with a serious public order incident in Newtownmountkennedy, County Wicklow.

The three men and one woman were arrested during alleged violence and unrest last night at a site earmarked to house asylum seekers.

Michael and Shane Synott, with an address at Season Park, Newtownmountkennedy, Ben McNulty of Rosmore Avenue, Newtownmountkennedy, and Sharon McCann with an address at Mountainview Drive, Newtownmountkennedy, were all charged with the same offence.

They are alleged to have been loitering in a public place, namely Tudor Road in Newtownmountkennedy, which gave rise to a reasonable apprehension for the safety of persons, the safety of property, or for the maintenance of public peace.

They were also alleged to have failed to comply with the direction of An Garda Síochána when told to leave the area immediately.

All four were granted bail today with no objections, subject to certain conditions, and they are due back in court on the 9th of May.
