The next presenter of the Late Late Show will be a woman, Pat Kenny has predicted.
This morning, RTÉ announced that Ryan Tubridy will step down as the programme’s presenter after 14 years in the job.
No woman has ever presented the programme on a permanent basis and Mr Kenny said management at RTÉ would not want another man.
“Would they dare give it to a man in this day and age?” he said.
“The inevitability of social history would determine [that] irrespective of talents - and there are many talented women and men out there - it’ll be a woman.”
Before presenting The Pat Kenny Show on Newstalk, Mr Kenny presented the Late Late Show for 10 years and said it is best to leave the job on a high.
“When you interview Sinéad O’Connor five times and Westlife six times - or whatever it is - it can become repetitive,” he said.
“So, if you can quit while you’re ahead and do something else - great.”
Mr Tubridy will present the Late Late Show for the last time on 26th May.
