A meeting of the Cabinet has concluded without any agreement on abortion legislation. The government will continue discussions next week on the draft proposals to deal with the Supreme Court 'X Case' judgement.
The Health Minister James Reilly gave his colleagues a progress report today.
Meanwhile a senior Fianna Fail frontbench member has admitted there is division in the party over its position on abortion legislation.
Dara Calleary says Fianna Fail which is pro-life will wait to see the specific proposals before revealing its stance on the matter. He is also rejecting claims his party failed to address the abortion issue during its previous time in power.
Mr. Calleary says while there are differences of opinion he accepts the 'X Case' has to be dealt with.
"I'm not saying there's no division - let's be very clear on that" he said.
"There is different views on it - I want to be very clear on that - there's very different views in this room, there's different views in every part of this country about it".
"We will have discussions around it when we have specific things in front of us, and...we will articulate a position once they're there" he added.
'A lot of speculation'
Speaking on his arrival at Government Buildings this morning the Taoiseach Enda Kenny refused to comment on the contents of the legislation.
"It's not for me to comment on anything that might or might not be coming before Cabinet" he said.
"Clearly I have listened to a lot of speculation over the weekend, but obviously these are matters to be considered by government in its own time and that's what we'll do. I would like to see the legislation enacted before the Dail rises for the summer" he added.
The Education Minister Ruairi Quinn has also admitted that there are differences of opinion.
