Yes!

Well possibly. Like all wines if you drink a gallon of it you're not going to be full of the joys of life the next morning. But there is a type of wine that is said to help avoid the usual 'wine head' the next day.

Its called Natural Wine. No magic, no mystery, no make believe. Just little or no chemicals and a more natural production process.

The wine is made from ripe grapes and not a lot else. The addition of sulfur dioxide, sugar, nitrogen, tartaric and malic acid, etc as in normal wine, does not take place here. Do you not need all of these things to create wine? Apparently not. The fruit ferments with native yeasts creating a clean and pure wine.

At the moment there is no official or legal definition of natural wine and no legislation been passed to date so natural wines vary in their pureness and production. It is not the same as organic wine, as this is made from organically grown grapes but may still be subject to chemical and physical manipulation.

So instead of stocking up on hangover remedies the next time you plan a night out, why not try a natural wine instead a prevent the hangover from the get-go? Prevention is better than cure and all that.

Here are a few natural wine producers to keep an eye out for:

  • Stella di Campalto, Tuscany, Italy
  • Van Volxem, Mosel, Germany
  • Domaine Jean-Louis Chave, Rhone, France
  • Le Coste de Gradoli, Lazio, Italy
  • Clos Saron, Sierra Foothills, CA
