Northern Ireland will have its first female First Minister, as Arlene Foster is formally elected as leader of the Democratic Unionist Party.

She will take up the First Minister role next month.

It is after Peter Robinson stepped down as DUP leader.

She explains her top priority:

"I want us to convince people to vote for the DUP on the merits of our case, and not just because we are the biggest or because they always voted for our party".

The Sinn Féin leader Gerry Adams says despite a new DUP leader, the same political commitments must be fulfilled in Stormont's Power Sharing Executive:

"I wish her well. I think it's good that a woman has taken up that post. She will have challenges like the rest of us, but - like the rest of us - she is obliged to keep to the agreements that have been made. She is a Unionist, we are Irish Republicans, but what we have in common is that we have entered into a series of commitments, and it is up to us collectively to deliver on those agreements."
