Tennis star Novak Djokovic has been released from detention in Australia after a court quashed the decision to cancel his visa.
The World Number One has been detained State-run quarantine hotel in Melbourne, since his medical exemption visa was cancelled on his arrival in the country.
Authorities at Melbourne Airport decided Djokovic, who is outspokenly opposed to getting vaccinated, had not provided sufficient medical evidence to qualify for the exemption.
This morning, Judge Anthony Kelly read out an agreement between the Australian Government and Djokovic stating that the decision to cancel his visa should be cancelled.
He ordered the government to pay the tennis star’s costs and said Djokovic should be released from detention within 30 minutes.
Australia’s Immigration Minister Alex Hawke still retain the power to cancel Djokovic’s visa – a move that would bar him from the country for three years.
A spokesperson for Minister Hawke said he was “currently considering the matter and the process remains ongoing".
