Google has been adding plenty of unexpected locations to their Street View service over the last few months. Whether it's a recreation of the inside of Dr Who's TARDIS, a glimpse at the Large Hadron Collider, or a tour through an amusement park Diagon Alley, there's certainly been some surprise inclusions to a service most often used to see what a house or restuarant you're going to looks like. The latest addition might be the most unusual of them all, though.
Yes, online visitors can now explore Gatwick Airport in all its pre/post-flight glory. Explaining why they opted to let Google document the layout in such detail - particularly surprising given the infamously strict security of airports - the airport blog explains they hope Street View and indoor maps will help passengers "pinpoint key areas such as information hubs, charging points, play areas and toilets, helping speed journeys and allowing passengers to make best use of waiting time. As location-aware services, once inside the airport, passengers are able to instantly identify where they are and easily navigate their way around."
If you've always wanted to visit an airport but have a flying phobia or fear of airport security, then here's your chance to see what lies beyond the boarding pass check. You can explore the embedded Street View below for an interactive look at the departures lounge, duty free and more or less everything in between. Because why not?
