NPHET has met this evening amid concern over the increasing coronavirus numbers.
The meeting was chaired by Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan, who has now returned to work.
The meeting raises the possibility of fresh restrictions for some or all of the country, after the highest number of new cases since April was recorded yesterday.
Saturday saw 613 new cases recorded, with another 364 reported today.
Latest figures have shown the nationwide COVID-19 incidence rate per 100,000 population has risen to 107.98.
As of this morning, there were 134 COVID-19 patients being treated in Irish hospitals, with 22 confirmed cases in intensive care.
Any recommendations made by NPHET will likely be considered by Government tomorrow or Tuesday, depending on the urgency.
