The number of court cases related to child pornography have increased by 250% over the past three years.
In 2015, the DPP directed 22 cases for prosecution relating to accessing child pornography.
However, that rose to 78 last year - a slight decrease from the 79 cases in 2017.
According to details released under the Freedom of Information Act, a further 49 cases have been directed this year so far.
In contrast, there were only 14 cases in 2009.
Noeline Blackwell, CEO of the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre, believes the increase is down to more enforcement.
She observed: "What seems to have happened over the past few years is you will see that the gardaí will engage in an operation where they will find a ring of people supplying child porn."
Mrs Blackwell stressed that accessing images of child sexual abuse is a very serious crime.
She explained: "Some people will say that where adults access pornography, including child pornography, that it prevents them actually exploiting children in their own vicinity.
"That of course entirely ignores the fact that any form of child pornography is exploitation of children and is damaging to children."
