Scottish police they say have arrested a number of dissident republican terrorist suspects. Police Scotland Assistant Chief Constable Ruaraidh Nicolson confirmed the arrests under the 2000 Terrorism Act.
They were arrested at several locations on suspicion of committing various offences.
The operation has also involved the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) and the British security service.
It has been focused on the activities of individuals "sympathetic to dissident Republicanism, but who are not affiliated to any specific group".
Scottish Police have led the operation, which has involved a number of officers including specialist units. They say public safety has been a priority throughout.
"We are confident as a result of these arrests there is no risk to the public. It would be inappropriate to comment further at this stage" Chief Constable Nicolson said.
